Zendeh presents ‘Kismet’, a drama laboratory
کارگاه تئاتر از گروه زنده This is a multilingual and multi-disciplinary new work in progress developed in Iran and the UK. As this new work moves towards being rehearsal-ready for June/July 2009, Zendeh’s artistic director Nazli Tabatabai-Khatambakhsh will lead and collaborate with participants exploring and examining the approaches to the dissolving of text into expression by gesture and movement and then reconnecting with the text. The working practice of Zendeh incorporates methodologies and principles of Jerzy Grotowski, Eugenio Barba, Augusto Boal and contemporary theatre makers in Tehran.
This is an opportunity to engage with changes in practice and form in international performance.
For example, participants will explore performance, dramaturgy and the relationship between theatre and dance within the context of Iran and the UK. This will be enabled by a series of experiments testing:
Character creation and development through improvisation
Building scenes and story through textual analysis
The practice will explore approaches to making theatre/performance in Iran and the UK that is on the frontier of where dance meets theatre. Zendeh believes that artists are not defined nor censored by their borders - rather that the artist’s cultural identity is an instinctual and learned catalyst for inspiration in creating their art.
